It all started with an idea…

An idea inspired by the love of my life, my wife, Sydney. Her love for entomology (study of insects,) sparked a thought that maybe I can fuse all our passions together. She buys ethically sourced insects, spreads them, pins and frames them up to display as you can see below. Something like you would picture seeing at a trip to the Natural History Museum. This led me to thinking if I could do this exact same concept with an Air Jordan 1 ‘Chicago'.’ So, I got to work, got to showing off my design at local sneaker conventions, and eventually leading up to the artwork you see from me today. A perfectly dissected sneaker, stitch by stitch, beautifully framed in a way to show the anatomy of the shoe.

Sneaker artwork made for the museum.

SNEAKER ANATOMY 101:

Lesson one: About me.

My name is Al Baker! I am an artist & photographer based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. I was born in Tennessee however we relocated to Punta Gorda, Florida at a young age. This was where I spent most of my life. Growing up, I was really big into fashion & creativity. More specifically, sneakers. I used to spend all my time in middle school designing shoes instead of actually paying attention in class. My mom would send Nike all my designs until they finally sent back a letter crushing my dreams! I’m just playing but regardless, I didn’t realize it then that sneakers would come around full circle to where I am now..

During high school, I picked up a job at the local pool hall. I would practice 13 hours a day from open to close, gambling with the old heads by day & playing with friends by night. For ten years, I would travel the state playing in the pro tours. During that span of ten years, I managed to place 5th in the National Championships, 2x 2nd in the State Championships, 36th at the US Open, and 13th at a team event for the World Championships. Also winning multiple events throughout the Florida Pro Tours. Unfortunately, my love for the game slowly diminished and I said good bye for good.

I was introduced to Las Vegas during my billiards career where I fell in love with the vibe of this city. Not so much the party, night life vibes, but more so than outdoors. Red Rock Canyon holds a special place in my heart. It was where I picked up hiking, rock climbing, bouldering, and my freelance career in commercial adventure photography. Working with companies like Adobe, Backcountry, Prada, & more. This city has given me so much however, what I am most thankful for is the love of my life, my wife, Sydney.
